Vas Do Praha! Welcome to Prague
New Trolley this
year at the Fesitval
The
Trolley is coming to Prague for the Kolache
Festival and will provide shuttle service from the
designated parking at the Middle School.
Trolley
hours are 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The Trolley will
run from the Middle School parking lot, downtown,
and back. At approximately 10:30 a.m., the Trolley
will begin operating between the Middle School
parking lot and the transfer station located at
Glenwood. Shuttle golf carts will be available at
the transfer station to shuttle to various points
throughout the day.
This year
the Festival will provide 12 shuttles operating
from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. There will be plenty
of transportation available at well-marked
“Shuttle Stops.”
The
Trolley holds 28 passengers and is handicapped
accessible.
Due to safety concerns,
the Festival has drastically decreased the number
of golf carts to be used at the Festival this
year. The Festival Staff carts have been decreased
by 50%, the Prague Police Dept. by 25%, and
handicapped carts have been eliminated.
Handicapped parking will be along Highway 62
north of the Funeral Home on the grass in front of
the park. In case of rain and wet ground, the
handicapped parking will be in the funeral home
east parking lot. One of the shuttle golf cart
pick up locations will be at the handicapped
parking location. A state-issued handicapped
sticker will be required to get through the road
blocks to park in the handicapped parking area.
Arrangements have been made to bring handicap
electric chairs (scooters) to the Festival for
those who do not have their own motorized wheel
chair or handicap scooter. Quantities are limited
(6), so make your reservations for a scooter as
soon as possible.
To make reservations
contact Jarrod at Smith Medical, 405-285-9888.
Cost of a motorized wheelchair is $30 per hour or
$75 for the day (8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) To rent a
scooter requires a handicap sticker. Scooters must
be picked up at park pavilion #2. Scooters are not
available for non-handicapped persons.
Czech & Then Some
The polka
band “Czech and Then Some” from Ennis, Texas, will
be making their second appearance at the Prague
Kolache Festival this year. They will be playing
at the main grandstand at the city park from 1:00
to 5:00 p.m.
The band
has been playing together since 1997 and the
majority of the members are of Czech descent and
enjoy keeping their Czech heritage alive.
The band
has played for festivals all across Texas and in
Nebraska, Oklahoma, Kansas, Iowa, and Wisconsin.
The band
has six recordings on CD. Co-owners of the band
are David Slovak and Danny Zapletal. David plays
accordion, guitar, piano and vocals. Danny plays
trumpet, keyboard, vocals and is arranger. Other
members include Aaron Schumacher on trumpet, Zeke
Martinez on drums, John Schumacher bass and
vocals, Jennifer Marek on sax and clarinet and
Michelle Slovak on sax and clarinet.
Be sure to stop by the grandstand and listen to
their
music and welcome the group to Prague.
The 50th Anniversary Kolache Festival Cookbook, “Cooking
Czech,” has arrived. The committee collected Czech
recipes and historical information from previous festival
cookbooks, the WFLA/ZCBJ Lodge, local Czech families,
and former festival queens and compiled them into
a beautiful hardcover keepsake cookbook.
These one-of-a-kind cookbooks are on sale now for
$12. They may be purchased at C&A Cleaners, Beacon’s,
and the Prague Historical Museum. The cookbooks will
also be available at the Kolache Festival on May 7.
Call Maxine Kingsbury at
405-567-4866 for additional information or mail your
order to the Kolache Festival, P.O. Box 7, Prague,
OK 74864.
Every first Saturday in May, the citizens of
Prague welcome people from around the world to join them in
celebrating the rich Czech culture that played a vital role
in the city's founding. The Kolache Festival offers dance,
song, food, crafts, a parade, carnival rides, and royalty.
The festival symbolizes the warmth and fellowship of the Bohemian
people. We are proud of the heritage we celebrate and invite
you to this wonderful celebration.

Klobasneks, and get to know our town and townspeople. Check

afternoon by the band Czech & Then Some from Ennis, Texas.
